Hooray employment!

I just got a job at an electronics shop in town. I'm really happy about it of course, I'm making money again! and I'm working in a place that deals in what I love to do.

I'll be fixing televisions, computers, game consoles, answering phone calls, and bullshitting with my boss. At $8.00 an hour plus bonuses for repair work!

Just awesome.

Thats it for now, I've gotta get to work.

Old Game Nostalgia - Remembering the Past

I've always wondered why old games die. I mean, of course new "better" games come out with better graphics and technology, but that shouldn't mean the old games should die because of it. I of course am speaking of Half-Life games.

I'm a hardcore Half-Life gamer, owning every Half-Life game and a few Source games. I've played them all and I love them all. In fact I just finished playing Half-Life Single Player last night for the 80 billionth time.

I would love to see people, especially the younger kids, start to play the older games again. Remember, those games were there for you, now you should be there for them. Remember the good times you had playing The Specialists, Firearms, Vampire Hunter, or even Ricochet? I sure do, because I still play them.

Show your old games some love, play them, because I know when you do you'll love them once again. You young kids too, you should see how fun things were before the new source technology came to be.

Sorry about that, I lost my web hosting and didn't know about it until I came back from my vacation. But anyways I've switched back to blogger.com and had to redo my entire template to remove the site links and crap.

I'll try to keep my blog updated as much as possible though with tasty content for you to chew on. It's hard though, between me being super busy with life and being so lazy after I get time off, that I lack the drive to post anything.

BUT I WILL TRY!

Gardening

It's spring time!
That means it's gardening season!

And I'm growing everything :)

So far it's been a $40 investment which has purchased 32 peat pots, a peat planter that contains 72 meshed peat bags, a sprayer, and seeds.

Opening the workshop

It's been a while since I've had any me time. I've been so busy lately with other things, and the weathers been rather crappy, I haven't had time for any projects.

I have a list of projects I want to work on but I'll list two for starters.

I'll be starting work on a new set of lockpicks. I need a new set because my old ones aren't as sensitive as I'd like them to be.

From there I plan on working on some electronics, I need a multisystem switch for my consoles but I can only find a 4 system where I need a 6 system, so I will be making my own switch.

That should quench my creative thirsts for a while.

Interviewing a hacker

The Mentor replied to my e-mail interview. Here's the results of the interview. Enjoy :)

1.) When did you start using computers?
1976

2.) What was your first computer?
3.) At what time did you start hacking and why?
The two are related. The first computer I ever owned was an Apple //+.
The first computers I ever worked on were a PDP 11, a PET-10, and an
Apple clone called a CompuColor, all of which were available at the
main library of the college in San Marcos, TX (Southwest Texas State,
now known as Texas State). We moved from Austin to San Marcos in 1976,
between the summer of my 5th and 6th grades. I didn't know anybody,
and was a book fanatic, so I hung out there that summer and taught
myself how to use the computers.

I'm going to go with the original meaning of the word "hacker," rather
than interpret it strictly as "breaking into computers". This is when
I started. The mainframe guys at the place my Mom worked printed out a
copy of a Star Trek program that they had running. I decided to port
it to the CompuColor, not realizing that it wouldn't fit into the
available RAM (I think it was a 32K machine, and it needed around 40K
to run it), so I modded it to work.

4.) How did you come up with your handle "The Mentor"?
From the Lensman series by E.E. "Doc" Smith.

5.) You wrote the Hacker Manifesto, what inspired you to write it?
Getting arrested :)

8.) What do you think about the internet today? Do you feel it is more or less secure?
I think that the internet is no more or less secure than computer
networks have ever been. In general, people are stupid, and don't stay
current on patches. What has changed, at least in the USA, is how easy
it is to trace people. Some of the crazy scanning/autodialing we used
to do would be detected within hours by the phone company, not to
mention instant CLID.

9.) What do you think of todays hackers?
I don't really know any personally to have an opinion one way or
another. Like the general public, it's safe to assume that the vast
majority of them are idiots.

10.) Do you still hack computers?
Every day.

11.) What is your favorite programming language?
I have a real sentimental spot in my heart for Pascal. I haven't
written in code in it in decades, but it was the first language that I
really, really fell in love with.

12.) Are you waiting for an electronic revolution, where the hackers, crackers, and phreakers take control?
Ummmm, "waiting" would imply that I thought something like that could happen.

13.) You have a large following of hackers, any words or advice for your friends in the underground?
Try and direct your passion for hackery into something that isn't
going to get you busted. There are 3 billion open source projects that
need skill and enthusiasm. It is far, far too easy to get caught these
days, and the spotlight shines far, far brighter on those who are. One
DVD Jon is worth ten thousand script kid wannabes.
